1967 Unipower GT, manufactured by Universal Power Drives Ltd as a complete running vehicle, i.e.: not as a DIY kit.

The car has a Mini Cooper S powertrain mounted in the rear, with modified and reversed Mini Cooper S front suspension used in front of a tubular frame, clothed in a high quality fiberglass body.

UK race driver Ernie Unger was impressed by the potential of the 1963 Deep Sanderson, a rear mid-engined sports coupe based on Mini running gear. Working together with Val Dare-Bryan to design a space frame chassis, they found Universal Power Drives Ltd., manufacturer of off-road trucks, willing to manufacture a small GT car. Molds were taken from the prototype aluminum body (which was designed with help from one of the Ford GT design engineers) and subsequent fiberglass bodies were created by Specialized Mouldings from those molds over a square tube chassis built by Arch Motors. 60 were initially built, mostly in right hand drive configuration, some with the 998cc and the remainder with the 1275cc Mini Cooper engine. 13 of these cars were imported to the US with others exported to Spain, Switzerland and France. Another 15 were built by UWF (Unger Weld-Forrester) through about 1973. Two cars were sent to LeMans in 1969 but they failed to qualify. An estimated 45 examples remain today, worldwide, with a total of 7 known in the USA.

Delivered March of 1967 and displayed at the Barcelona, Spain auto show, by September 1967 this car began its racing career and competed successful in many hill climbs and endurance races including the 1968 Barcelona six hour race. Originally red, it was restored and painted dark green around 2010.

Beginning in 2017 it was raced in central Texas and Virginia, racing with CVAR, SVRA and VRG race organizations. Sold in October 2023 and is now in Canada (it will emerge from partial restoration in its original red color).
