“Old Faithful”
Original factory supplied right-hand drive, manufactured early October 1967. Fitted with metric instruments, a 3 synchro on standard steel rims with hub caps. A special combination for british soldiers or business-men to motor on the Continent.
Supplied for export to be free of the English VAT, it spent 2 years abroad and got registered in the Netherlands in 1970.
The overdrive for this 3 synchro was introduced around 1987. Shortly afterward it was modified to lefthand drive.
Still running original engine when bought in 1999. All suspension bushes replaced by latest generation bushes.
Front stabilizer replaced by a 3/4 inch version. Front shocks uprated to 115%. Telescopic Koni at the rear. A different car emerged.
In 2015 the 4 speed with overdrive replaced by a 5 speed Mazda box. A tremendous improvement over the MG transmission.
Ratios between the various gears are spot-on. Remarkable is the reduction of noise within car.
2021 replaced the wires by 15 inch Minilite rims. Removing wires, splined hubs and wing nuts she shod a total of 20 kg. The stiff minilites are favourable as they improve handling and moreover they contribute to the reduced unsprung car weight.
The 175 mm wide tubeless tread by Michelin suit the B perfectly.
Now that rims and tires have improved roadholding, the next step will be the modification to 5 link rear suspension. Have made design drawings and have started manufacture. Have opted for the Panhard rod for the lateral stability.
