The car was purchased by my wife and I as a driver. It had been restored when we bought it, and ran incredibly well. Other than some minor work and very minor details of the restoration that hadn't been done to my satisfaction, I've done very little work on this car. I've driven it quite a bit and up to this point it's largely been my go-to British car for events and meets. Since buying the car I've rebuilt the front suspension with new shocks, replacing bushes and the front wheel bearings. I also installed a big brake kit, replaced some pitted chrome, and a new exhaust, along with a new brake servo (the old one had failed). Other than the basic maintenance, I don't have much left to do on this car other than enjoy it!

Why is the VIN of the car a secret? There were exactly 17,712 BJ8s that originally left the factory. Which one is this? The BJ8 Registry may have some information or history recorded that you don't have, but perhaps would like to.

It isn't a secret and was never intended to be. It is a requirement for posting a car to e here to enter something and I didn't have the car or VIN handy at the time so put in a unique and clearly wrong VIN. I actually have over a hundred classic cars so keeping this all updated here is more work than I generally have time for, but the chassis number is indeed HBJ8L35072.

Alex, I wasn't trying to be smart, but as the keeper of the BJ8 Registry since 1998, I am intensely interested in identifying as many BJ8s as possible so missing VINs are a bit frustrating for me. I was hoping you might response, especially since apparently your last entry here was in 2013.The BJ8 Registry is operated as a free resource for all BJ8s owners and has been a unique resource for many individual owners. As of today, the registry documents more than 54% of total BJ8 production (9,568 of 17,712 cars built. As a way to identify a car when the VIN isn't given, I have documented the physical features of each car. I was able to identify yours from (1) the paint scheme, (2) the type and position of the mirrors on the front fenders, and (3) the AHCA decal in the lower left corner of the windscreen. HBJ8L35072 has a history in North Carolina back to at least 1975. Please contact me at sbyers@ec.rr.com and I will provide the complete registry entry for the car.
