My MG TC was built in September 1948 and had been restored at one point by the owner before the last some time ago. The last owner hardly drove it, primarily storing it over the 6 years or so since he bought it, but passed away recently which is why it came up for sale again. On purchase, it was a largely running car, but had some severe issues that needed immediate attention. The tires were old, hard, and too big for the car leading to some rubbing inside the wings. The steering was worn making the car wander dangerously at anything over 35 MPH. Finally the carburettors were badly worn and misadjusted, running very rich, on top of being from an earlier TC or TB (along with the distributor, but that at least worked OK for now). The carburettors made it nearly impossible to drive smoothly as the engine would surge, then die back repeatedly under part throttle. The previous owner also destroyed the wiring harness, cutting it up to make all kinds of modifications that were badly done, miswired, and held in place with zip ties and velcro straps, and needed pretty immediate
attention. The rich fuel issues caused fuel to collect in the muffler which split under backfire the second I fired it up after I installed the new carburettors, leading me to replace it as well. Since buying it, I've replaced tires, carburettors, installed a VW steering conversion and have rewired the whole car, as well as fixed a few minor issues here and there. The engine burns oil a bit and will likely need new rings this winter, but until then I'm planning on driving it!
