Civil Aviation enthusiast - civil commercial. Scale modeller ( Airliners - 1/144 & Le Mans cars 1/24 - Group C era ). OO gauge -1/76 scale model railways. Classic Car aficionado. Huge fan of Le Mans 24hrs - Aston Martin supporter. Loved the "Group C" era when the C 1 grid was comprised of Jaguar XJR 9 & 11s, Lancia LC/2s, Porsche 956/962s, Sauber Mercedes C9 & 11s, Peugeot 905s, Nissan R89s, Toyota 88s & Mazda 787Bs(the only Japanese type to win) and C2 with Spices, Roy Baker Tigas, ADAs et al. - those were the days and in my opinion, never beaten, and possibly only matched when Bentley won in 2003 !!!
And, not least, ex- Boy Scout ( RAF Recognised 11th Ilford North Air Scout Group - founded by my Father, Ken Sceats a superb leader) and I still count myself as a member of the Association.!
Ex-Chairman of the UK Civil Aviation Authority HQ Recreational Society and also, the CAA Flying Association

" It All Fell Apart At The Seams " !.

The best laid plans of mice & men as they say ! Having arrived at Graham's (my engineer) on the morning of Saturday 26 March for the grand unveiling, following completion of the restoration works and prior to setting off for Spain, we duly went into his garage for the ceremony. Covers off and she looked superb. Fired her up, she sounded great with the twin SS exhaust and we rolled her out. Then disaster struck ! My mobile bleeped. Bad news ! It was a text message from Brittany Ferries advising...
This Really Is "The Final Countdown" , Surely ?

After my previous abortive attempt to pick up my refurbished Midget and drive to Spain, I am now just 5 days to the "off" for my 2nd attempt. Surely it's got to hang together this time ? I've done everything I can to cover all contingencies, breakdown cover for both UK and Europe. Co-pilot on board, overnight stop fixed and a total of around 1300 Kms (840 miles) to drive. It would be a bonus if the weather also decides to be on side. My engineer, Graham, is due to take "Arlette" out on a final...
"Over The Last Hurdle And A Clear Round ! "

After a 20 month mechanical and partial bodywork restoration, today (17 March), "Arlette" had 2 new rear tyres fitted then flew through her MoT(technical inspection) passing with NO advisories. I am delighted, not only for myself but even more so for Graham my engineer because to me, this stands as testimony to the incredible amount of high quality work he has put in, of his own free will in his spare time to extremely exacting standards. Second best is unacceptable to Graham, pure and...
"At Age 70, Still A Boy At Heart !!!"

Back in the mid '60's, a pal of mine had a white TR4 (Reg. 4601WK) and I loved it and that fired my enthusiasm for sports cars, an interest that has burned away continuously since. Me, all I could afford at that time was an 1955 Austin A30 (Reg. UCV224), but boy was it solid. A Hillman Imp once impaled itself on the back. The Imp was a wreck at the front but the Austin didn't even sustain a scratch ! The old Austin would go the length and breadth of the country without a hitch, but on short...
