Hello all,
as with any older car classic or otherwise one always has a list of things that need doing. My Minor is no exception and I finally got to do some of the mile long list on the past weekend at the shop where I work.
I had a set of Mini Fin brake drums which were to be used on my original Morris but I decided to use two of them on "Doris" (the new car), I had to drill the adjustment holes in them for the minors adjustment cam ( the drums are for Minis with the adjusters on the back) then I re-balanced the wheels, and rotated them. I found a broken tension spring inside the left drum and replaced it with a spare I had. The front suspension was lubricated, and examined for sources of rattles etc. I still have an irritating rattle which I suspect is in the rack pointing towards the need for taking up wear on the tie rod joints and possibly the damper. A 1" diameter hole was drilled in the LH bulkhead for the temp sensor and oil gauge pie to go through when I fit the auxiliary gauges to the under dash, Then I spent about an hour or so adjusting the torsion bar ride height to get the car to sit level instead of too high on the RH side. Still some work to do in this regard but things are better. I looked at the door mirror issue again and decided that I need to find another resolution for this rear blindness issue. Wing mirrors are useless. There is till a long list of stuff left to do.
The car is running very well and performs as well as my Cooper S Mk II did. It's a fun little sleeper! The fuel gauge seems to drop a wee bit fast from full though.
Cheers, Stephen
