(sorry for the double posting - but I need urgent help!).

I'm trying to replace the rear leaf spring (traveller). But I can't get the front shackle pin out. Any advice?

I've removed the nut and washer, and tried hammering, but its not budging.

Do I need to remove the bracket plate, and if so, how is this done? (i.e. how do I keep the bolt still while turning the nut).

Thanks.

To remove the pin you are fighting the press fit, rust and the grip of the rubber bushings. The pin retaining bracket is not quite a tight fit. The bracket is there in order to insert the inside bushing after the spring is in place, so the bolts were tightened last. It is possible to get a wrench on the bolt heads that hold the pin retaining bracket. It will need to be a low profile wrench and there is just enough room in the gap in the front of the hanger and the floor.

You cut the nut off with an angle grinder Matey.

Or drill it from one side wuth increasingly larger drill.
Ditto the other side.

The split it with a chisel.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get a wrench on the bolt heads as Jim suggested, and then it was easy - the plate came off, and the shackle bolt slid out...

So, car is now back on the road, and I'm feeling pleased with myself! (first time I've done this).
