Do the gasoline suppliers change the formulation in the summer/winter in AZ? The reason prices go up in the summer is not to rip us off. It's because they add a lot of additives to increase the vaporization temperature. You might get a lot in AZ. Next time anyone experiences extensive vaporization, think back and identify when you purchase the gas. If it was when it was colder, you'll have a real hard time getting home.

Yes, they definitely do this in California, and I believe in Oregon and other states as well. I wonder if the 10% ethanol makes any difference in the reid vapor pressure which is measure of how easily the fuel evaporates.

White pipe, which I also know as oxygen pipe,
will keep the heat away much better than black pipe

Heat shield sleeve is the very best.

Update...........

I have just been and re-created the same run we did last Saturday when we had to be recovered we got stuck for about 10 minutes on a minor road behind a wagon that had gone the wrong way and had to do a 63 point turn and things must have getting pretty hot under the bonnet. I am pleased to say Desmond ran perfectly and never missed a beat with his new £43 Lumenition coil fitted.

The coil still gets very hot so I have just ordered a bracket to mount it away from the engine and onto the inner wing where it is out of the radiators direct heat blast. Today was a lot hotter than last week so I am confident I have identified the problem as being the coil.
I did contact Lumenition and they told me that it was fairly normal for coils to run hot, Distributor Doctor told me to open up the spark plug gaps to 0.030" as this would help, not sure how though.

Re the fuel pump location, I dont think there is a problem there now, I do intend to cover the inlet pipe with some heat-shield tube just as a precaution though. What does get rather hot is the carburettor float bowl so I am also planning on making a stainless shield to go between it and the manifold as well.

You get a better spark
