Hi,

My resonably tuned 1275 Marina engine has destroyed the original diff at last. As new diffs are no longer available and refurbished ones would not be stronger anyway I think about inserting a helical LSD in my axle.
Has anyone done so also and can share his expieriences?

Best
Chris

if you fit a stronger diff, the next problem you will encounter is snapped axle shafts.. commonly they tend to fail before the diff.. you can swap to a BMC 'B series' rear axle ( MGA and MGB to '67..MGA uses same rear wheel cylinders as the morris) but then you have the issue of wider bolt pattern ( 4.5" v 4') and can use MGB wheels to get beyond that and re-drill font hubs to match bolt pattern.. the '62-68 MGB disc wheel take same size hubcaps as the minor.. as do austin A60 and its variants..

I will also use strengthened axle shafts used fo racing. Hope these will cope. Additionally I have fitted anti tramp bars to the rear axle that reduces unuseful movements and shocks to the axle and the shafts.

your simple resolution would be to contact one of the Uk specialists that serve the vintage race community ..'quaif' was the most popular brand for stronger differentials for the Sprite/Midget..there are several alternatives available today.. Sprites utilize same basic parts as used by the M Minor.. the later 'marina' vans and pick ups ( sold as leyland 575) came with the B series axle..

Your‘e right, I think about a Quaife-diff but there are some differences in the half shafts to use. One version of the diff uses the 10-spline halfshafts, another one half shafts with 23 splines. The latter is much more ecpensive as are the half shafts and I think the 10-spline version will do well enough as my car will only be used as a street car.
