first what is your location of the pump, second what carb you running so to purchase either a pusher or puller pump based on location and correct PSI so not to over pressure the needle/seat combo....

I've seen better days but they have cost me more money..!

I've been running Minors for decades and never had more than just the small cylindrical gauze filter in the SU pump and never had any fuel issues. Are external filters really needed?

depends on the health of the fuel tank. while your cars have been cared for and are protected and have stayed in constant service with the fuel caps in place....cannot always say that for the many forum users here entering the Minor hobby with recent purchases of used and in-op cars that have sat for who knows how long and in what condition or manners taken to protect systems. Thus, many tanks can and do have rust issues and this can be a problem. While the mesh of many inlets built into fuel pumps are of a finer micron to grab most the trash, let's face it...the inline filter is just too easy to service for those that may have some of the above conditions. Even though my tank in my build is new, my pump also new and is a pusher as I care not for a fuel pump near an exhaust manifold, I installed as a precaution a sealed metal filter as I do not like the manner the plastic ones are made and NEVER put a plastic filter in an engine compartment. But hey, these precautions are just the manner I do things. Each has to make their own call.

Sounds like you have a electric fuel pump. The factory placement is high on the firewall. That is a terrible place for a fuel pump.

The best place I found for my car is to move the pump to the back of the car near the gas tank. A fuel filter may not be necessary, but I always use one on the pressure side of the pump. Moving the pump is not factory so some folks will be offended if you make that change. Even though it does take some fiddling to get the pump mounted in the back, the car will be much happier with the pump there.

If it was good 60 years ago, does that mean it can't be improved?
