Hi I'm new to the Morris Minor world and am wondering what the compression should be on my 918 side valve. I want to check it but no sense if I don't know what numbers I need. I just love working on this little car, they are so friendly. We have two VW Beetles and I thought they were easy to work on but the Morris Minor is just plain basic.

Thanks
Jim

Compression ratio when new 6.5 6.7 50 one Jim.

If your oily cylinder reading are about the same,
somewhere between 70 and 90,
you are on a winner Jim smiling smiley

Dry reading a bit lower.

1 or more significantly lower
than the others,
you're in trouble sad smiley

Plug colour after a bit of a thrash
tells you more than compression.

Your welcome to pop round and
work on ours any time you wish smiling smiley

Thanks Mike. Car wont be driven until spring here so I can't give her a good run now to check plugs. Roads are snow covered now and they use too muck salt on the roads to drive these old girls in the winter. I have only had Miss Daisy for a month or so and after Christmas I will start getting more serious and start to ready her for a safety in the spring. The first year will be just as she is, with all the natural patina. The interior will get redone so she is clean and comfortable looking. Basically what she will need is brake system done. windscreen seals, door seals, head lights wiper arms and blades and tires, sorry, tyres.

Thanks again and I will check compression tomorrow (Monday)

Jim

If it runs good and doesn't smoke much it should be good. You would have to put pontoons on it and drive it across the pond to help123. Let me know how you get along with the windshield seal, they tell me it's a full case of beer job, or maybe a 1.75 of Canadian whiskey. I need to do mine.

I have read that the split windshield is a tough one. My only fear is breaking one of the pieces of glass. I'm not afraid to do it and will use the same plan I always use. " Take your time and do it right " Has worked many times before on other cars. I have done a few Beetle glass seals in the past but none were split window. I do have the shop manual that came with Miss Daisy and it has brief instructions on installing the split screen. Will have to order seals after the New Year. Any suggestions on the best place to order parts from. I have looked at few but don't know where is best.

The old girl runs good and have not seen smoke since the first start up.

Thanks
Jim

The rubber has deteriorated to the point where I think it should be replaced. Cracked, split. curled at corners and hard as rock.

Ah, sounds about due Jim.

Charlie Ware's rubbers appear U-shaped,
that is to have two bends in them.

However, beware of the seals
that have no bends in them.

They never fit right.

It looks like you found a nice original MM series ,my compression was 125 psi across all 4 ,I had a very slight coolant leak that may have been corrected by
retorquing the head . I opted to replace the head gasket, tappet cover, and exhaust manifold gaskets .While I had this all apart I checked the gap on the tappet's ( .018 cold .017 hot) only needed to adjust 2 of them ,it's a little awkward adjusting them, car runs nice now .
The windshield gasket is a pain ,drink after finishing ,make sure the rubber accepts the chrome garnish moulding (some don't )as I found out ,rear window is a breeze comparatively .
