Thanks for the help with re wire / switch question so far, I have one issue outstanding before I am complete that maybe someone can help with.
On the MM horn the wire connects to bolt which sits in a recessed hex hole and protruded through the column. There is a metal spring strip
that also attaches on the bolt which makes contact on the column.
I cannot find a drawing or parts list that shows the other components / insulation's that make up this connection - would be grateful if some could help out

Mike, I am referring to the "other end " of the connection just under the dash where the cable from the loom connects

It sounds like the earlier cars had a system to positively ground the column as the horn button grounds to the column. If that's the case, no insulation is required. Later cars assumed some metal to metal contact will be made somewhere in the rack.

There are two wires going to the horn.
One is the power wire
the other is the earth wire
If you disconnect one of them
and check is with a meter or a bulb
If it has voltage it's the live wire
if it hasn't any voltage, it's the earth.
Or there's summat wrong :-(
Follow the earth wire back.
It should go all the way
to where it connects to
the wire that connects to the horn button.
If you post a pic of your column
below the bracket that holds it to the dash,
we'll have a better idea of which column you have.
There's not telling who's changed what in your motor.

Was able to get hold of a picture of an assembly from the good folks at ESM.
I was missing the rubber "top hat" insulator which I fashioned from a grommet. So the sequence in reverse order on to the bolt is
-Bakalite shim to casting
-Wire on insulator
-Column contact strip on insulator
- Insulator locates in recess in casting
-washer and nut
Biggest challenge on the restoration is I have never seen the MM minor side valve before so in many cases I don't know what I am missing.
