hi faith, from what i have read 40-50 mph sounds about right. not sure as to the milage as with new rings these days i dont think they need as mutch as back when first produced.might want to check with your local garage/mot people, they might have a better idea.i would have thought the longer the better keeping an eye on water temp and trying not to over rev her.

Hi Daisy (Faith)

From the date of this post I'm guessing it's too late now but here is the method taught to me by my grandfather, an old-fashioned A grade mechanic.

1. For the fist 300 miles: accelerate quickly up to open road speed then gradually slow down to 30 Ml/Hr. And repeat. Change the oil after the 300miles.

2. Don't 'baby' the engine - drive at normal speeds, normal acceleration. If you baby the engine it will produce ridges at the top/bottom of the cylinder which can break the rings when you have to work the engine hard.

3. Best to have a sign in the back window to let the frustrated people behind you know.

The more modern method is to just drive the car in a normal manner.

Hope this helps
Pat
