Has anyone retro-fitted seat belts in a pre-1963 (or so) Minor without the factory mounts?

I have. I put modern 3-point inertia-reel seatbelts in my 58 2-door. I'll try to get pix if you are interested. Had to drill my own mounting holes, and then used the grade-8 bolts and nuts, plus thick, large-diameter steel washers at all of my mounting areas for strength.

Thanks Barry. Pics or discreptions of where to drill will be appreciated.

Hello,
I am in the process of retrofitting and would also be interested in some location advice for front and rear inertia in four door 1958. I do have the transportation standards for anchorages but would like to ensure it meets both practical and theoretical side of safety.

This would make a great article for the library if anyone would document the process and do a write-up.

Hello All,
I have done some investigations and have schematics, pictures and technical details about the retrofit, I will attempt to get these on line in the next few.

Ian, could you please be specific about what you mean. I have looked at the forum home page, scrolled up and down etc until my finger is sore and have not the slightest idea what you are referring to.

ok rob, go to the web site; morris minor owners. co.uk.( which is a forum) then look at the top of the page and find the " search" link. click on search. when the page comes up in the " search for key words" payne type in taylor my 1963 2door 656 tya. when the page loads it should be at the top with the author as Ben Minor 63. my original post is on this forums page that appears when i click on from my facebook page, and is in the " recent posts by others". i REALLY should have put it on this thread, but you know what they say about hindsight. sorry for the confusion.

The British Leyland Workshop manual, for Morris Minor series MM, series II and 1000, has the fitting instructions for everything from convertible to traveller.
The good people at E.S.M. Morris Minors - Spares & Repairs also have a set of fitting instructions for the pre late 61 belt fit. I found with mine that the fittings were all there but I was unaware of what the actual fitting points looked like, certainly not the single mount point I had been looking for.
Regardless of this it seems from, NZ transport anyway if you are not putting like for like or morris certified replacement belts in place of the original static belts, you may need to have the installation done by certified fitting station. Also any vehicle that has registered and wof in New Zealand since 1951(new) will have had belts fitted at least in the front.
