The long running Portland All British Field Meet occurred as usual on Labor Day weekend at the Portland International Raceway and there was a fair turnout of Minors. The quality of the cars seems to be always increasing even if the numbers are not. There were over 700 British machines present so no shortage of cars to wander by and take a look at. This year a select group was showcased in under the trees near the food vendors and Rand and Susan Hawkworth’s outstanding black convertible made it into this group. They hail from nearby Wilsonville Oregon. Check out that glossy paint and immaculate engine bay. The interior was just as nice. Other Minors present were a grey Traveller of Bruce Schacht, A green pickup of Curt Leahy, of Bend Oregon, a maroon convertible of Martha Osborne and Miriam Robinson, of Portland, a black four door of long standing member, Glenn Wright, a green convertible of Ken and Barbara Hurst of Astoria Oregon and a pickup of John and Sondra Dutra. There were other pickups present belonging to various vendors but strangely no two door sedans or vans this year.

On the following swap meet morning there were two trailered in Minors for sale, an engineless two door sedan and a four door owned by a couple from Eugene who are selling it to raise funds for the restoration of another four door found and rescued in Eugene. We now count three four door Minors in my Eugene area plus three two doors, two travelers, a pickup and one convertible.

One of the fun activities at the ABFM is the Pacific Coast Rover Club offers $2.00 rides in a Land Rover over a very challenging track in the inner area of the raceway. Always an exciting ride effectively showing the capabilities of a Land Rover, Defender, Discovery or early Range Rover all appropriately set up for extreme off roading and the funds go to a charity.
