Hello everyone, my name is david and i have a 1958 traveller that needs a full restoration. it has a ton of different parts in it like a 1980 fiat 124 spider motor and transmission and the original rear end which is not geared correctly. the traveller sat for about 10 years outside before i took over the project from my father. the engine has to be rebuilt and so does the transmission, and the rear axel has to be replaced or re-geared. for the amount of money i would spend on the rebuild and re-gear i can buy a 1993 miata with all its running gear. i know i will have to custom fab a ton of stuff to make the 1.6 engine for where the 2000cc fiat sits right now and miatas have rear independent suspension. so should i got through with a donor miata or try and figure out all the mismatched parts that are in the morris? i have spent over a year and a half trying to figure everything out in this car.

thank you, david

I did a google search and apparently it's pretty easy to convert a saloon to a convertible, but has anyone converted to a PU or Traveller? I have four minors, two 2 doors, one 4 door, and one split window.

The are located near San Antonio and if anyone would like to have one, all they have to do is bring me one. I want one of the 2 doors and the 4 door, but I'd trade the other two for the moving to El Paso.

Also, I have the bed, rear of cab, one door, and the tailgate of a pickup.

So, any advice?

Okay so im doing the whole 1.3 midget engine conversion and have many nice parts for it and im sure it will make me a very happy moggy owner, ( i am already like) however im currently re doing the entire rear end. bought fresh hubs, cylinders, shoes etc. Looks like my leafs could do with replacing and my axle well that has rusted away where the suspension connects to it.

I am wondering specifically here if there is any other car's leaf springs i can use with and on my mog axle.
Or is there another axle maybe even with disc brakes that wil able to be fixed to my current setup.
Help is greatly appreciated as this is a working classic and i use it daily when its on its wheels haha

How high up is best for shoulder seat belts?

Is it possible to fit head rests? Bearing in mind that I am about 6 feet tall, and not having these would mean very sore should blades after an accident if one were to occur.

Hi,
I had a 1954 2 door saloon, modified about 20 years ago to a 1954 convertable. Its been resting since then, not completed; however the next step is beginning - the change to an early 1949 electric powered lolite convertable.
Yes - all the ICE stuff is comming out! Engine, radiator, gearbox, fuel tank, back seat, to be replaced by an ex forklift motor, a battery bank, controller etc. The front body will go over to lolite panels, 5" catseye headlights, polished stainless steel grille, Series MM front seats, plain hubcaps, early bonnet chrome - all the early bodywork.
Right now, I've just about finished collecting the front bodywork and will be stripping and restoring these panels. I know that the car won't be completely authentic-looking - the back end of the bonnet will be wrong, for a start - but I think that the rounded clean shape of the earlier body style suits the electric function best. In keeping with this, I want to get the back right, too.
From 1948 'til about July 1949, the Morris Minor had 2" flat round glass taillights flush with the body. Behind the panel, the light had a bullet shaped body. The glass was fixed with a single central screw. The Lucas part number was 482. From mid '49, of course, Morris changed to the familiar "cheese-dish" taillight, which is presently on my vehicle.
I'm looking for a pair of the original Lucas 482 round taillights - any ideas?

Ive just completed my Morris. Removed the Engine, gearbox and diff and replaced it with a 1600 Crossflow Kent motor and 1600 Ford Sport gearbox. Performance really impressive, but I need to give attention to the suspension. Anyone fitted shocks in front and rear ? Would like to see how they went about with the conversion and what type of shocks was used.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your reply. I have some questions about Point 2.
1) You wrote; I have used a 1949 lowlight grill panel but used mesh on the actual frill section. Now that frill section is very important, ‘cause mine is in very sorry state (See photo) Is that frill section still lingering in your garage?
2) You wrote; The lights that are mounted in the grill are 146mm or 5 3/4" headlights which are the same as what was used originally. I measured the hole in my front (bought in India) and they are for 7 inch headlights (See photo) Now, isn’t that curious? Are you aware of different fronts?
3) On the same photo you can see 2 ‘drain holes’ marked with 2 black arrows. Here in The Netherlands no one knows what they are for. There is one ‘expert’ who claims it has something to do with CKD cars which were for escaping import taxes transported to the many dominions Britain possessed in those days. Any ideas?
4) Was mounting this front relatively straightforward? As work I see
A) Cutting a part out of the inner screen
B) Cutting a bit more out of the fender.
C) Connecting the extra 7 inch head lamps via a relay to a dashboard switch.
D) And Bob’s your uncle

That’s is all for the moment I’m attaching pics of my just finished Traveller restoration because there is still nothing to see of the Van I’m working on currently. For the simple reason that I am only concentrating on overhauling en refurbishing parts like front & rear suspension, steering column, horns, starter motor and so on, and so on.
5) Araluen Blue Is no Moggy colour but…….?

Greetings from Hans.(Dutch Moggyman)
Now I must try to upload the pics
