Modernization Engine Gearbox Rear end breaks the lot

Hi to all out there, i've got a '62 minor thou. i'm 70-60% through modernising it. and have come across a problem i'm fitting an mx-5 motor and gearbox with Escort disc's up front and an escort rear end. problem struck at the engine install, i have seen many 4a-ge motors installed and they are very similar size so my question is dose anyone have photo's log advice any help really with regards to placement radiators to use fans what if any cutting ( if cutting is required is there someone here in New Zealand done this and gotten certifiation problems arisen? ) is required what where and why. also the steering has any body done anything interesting there after cutting.

Cheers for that ian i'll suggest those points and check with the lvvc people about it. As for the break kit i got mine from http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/ in England. as i wonted a stockish set up from a passing glance and i can get 13 inch rims on if i wont, the other option i looked at was a kit from hopper stoppers breaks from an au falcon with the hub conversion but had to sit on a minimum of 16 inch rims which didn't follow plans. the stock master cylinder can be upgraded with the XR3i escort breaks i am using as well where as a complete new set was required for the falcon lot. being a kit yeah fairly easy, custom made to be a bolt on part with a full list of instructions also helps how ever. :)

you need to slot motor and box in to position leaving an inch or so beetween block and cross member and see what gets in the way. you may need to cut a strip out of the top of the bell housing where the steering rack goes across to get the box up high enough, and plate the gap so nothing gets into the bellhousing ( make a channel in the bellhousing for the rack to go into ) with enough room so it doesnt touch when motor is at idle or normal road use.
radiator is your choice with front panel modified for fit, and ditch the fan and go for a single or double electric slimeline setup ( the most compact depth wise )that will fit infront of the radiator.
you could gain more room buy notching the crossmember and replating to sit the motor back more.
my advice is to find out who the nearest certifier is to you and talk to them, they will have a far better idea of whats legal and whats not, also dont move the rack as you will end up with more problems than you want.

hope this is of some help. ps how hard was it to fit the escort disks, what model, brackets ect.
