The wheels with a piece welded in have been "banded" they were stock wheels before they were modified. The van and pickup wheels originally provided were wider and, I'm told, a little stronger than passenger car wheels. As for tire size, the general consensus is that regular 3 1/2" wheel rims should have tires no bigger than 155 - 14. Van rims will probably accept 165 - 14 safely.

Can anyone tell me about the difference between the original equipment Morris Minor 1000 wheels and the later Morris Minor Commercial Traveller or pickup wheels. Apparently the commercial wheels are stronger and wider so they can handle the wider profile radial tyres. What I looking for is how the two rims differ, I know the minor 1000 wheels are pressed but the commercial wheels I have seen are not the single pressed steel but have had a piece welded in to make it wider. My question is are the commercial rims all widened like this?

Hi josef

Do you mean Wheel or Tyre (Tire) size.

Do you want to keep the original rolling diameter?

From what I've read you can easily go bigger (wider and larger round) than original but it sounds like the limit is 185/70-14 (only about 165/70-14 on original rims) without modification of your guards and other bits.

The rim offset has a big influence too. ... Soo the best suggestion is to borrow a wheel from the friendly tire shop and try a rim with the the tire you want, to see how it fits/looks. Remember to check for rubbing on the front when the steering is at full lock.
